Master of Arts (Biblical Studies - Hebrew Bible)

The Master of Arts (Biblical Studies - Hebrew Bible) is a three-year program offering a specialization in Hebrew Bible for those desiring a stronger background in languages and exposure to topics necessary for advanced study. The student will successfully produce and defend a scholarly thesis.

Vocational Options

The MABS (HB) prepares students for entrance into Ph.D. programs and/or for ministries in which the student desires greater background in biblical languages and Hebrew Bible.  

Program Outcomes

At the completion of the MABS (HB) program, students will have read the entire Bible and will be able to:

  • Identify key figures, events, and passages of the Old and New Testaments
  • Articulate the main point of a passage in light of context, genre, and literary features
  • Outline the basic structure, themes, message, and theology of each biblical book
  • Translate and exegete Hebrew and Greek biblical texts
  • Produce, present, and defend a major advanced-level research project (thesis)

Admission

  1. Must possess a minimum of 18 semester hours in Multnomah's MABS program before applying for entrance into the MABS (HB).
  2. Must apply to the program coordinator requesting transfer into the MABS (HB) program.
  3. Must hold a minimum 3.0 grade point average (4.0 scale) in graduate courses.
  4. Must believe and affirm the essential doctrines of the Christian faith.

Graduation Requirements

  1. Complete all general graduation requirements as listed earlier in this section.
  2. Complete required program credits with at least 34 credits earned at Multnomah Biblical Seminary.
  3. Complete and defend a scholarly thesis.
  4. Earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale).
  5. Affirms the essential doctrines of the Christian faith.
  6. Normally, complete the program within six years from the date of matriculation.
