COU 560 Counseling Theory
This course will explore both early and contemporary theories and techniques of psychotherapy and counseling modalities, including the originators of each theory as well as basic ideas and treatment approaches of each. Students will learn the process of developing the therapeutic relationship and how it varies within the different modalitites. Students will also be introduced to Christian approaches in counseling theory, and the task of integrating these theories with a biblical worldview and understanding of humanity. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, integrative thourght from a biblical worldview perspective, and connecting theory to practical application.
