Student Employment

The mission of the Student Employment Program at Multnomah is to assist students in finding on-campus employment where students can gain real employment experience and be better prepared for future employment with real, marketable skills.

Multnomah employs an average of 135 student employees each year in on-campus, part-time positions.  80% of departments have student employment positions, including: IT, Admissions, Auxiliary Services, Library, Faculty, Campus Safety, Food Services, Custodial, Advancement, and Athletics.  Some of the benefits of student employment include flexible scheduling, no commute time (for those students living on-campus), lower tax liability (no Social Security and Medicare taxes withheld while school is in session), and opportunities to help finance education.

Certain eligible students may receive Federal Work Study (FWS) as part of their financial aid package.  To be eligible for FWS, a student must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have received an award letter showing eligibility.  Since FWS is one component of the financial aid package, each student is awarded a set amount of eligibility.  Federal and state agencies as well as non-profit organizations may contract with Multnomah to hire FWS-eligible students off-campus.

All student employees are hired through the Student Employment Office and need to present original, unexpired, and physical documentation proving identity and authorization to work in the U.S. to complete the I-9 Form.  Visit www.multnomah.edu/about/info/employment/student-employment for a complete list of acceptable documents for completing the I-9 Form.
