ENG 366 Literature of the Ancient World
This course will focus primarily on texts produced in ancient Athens and Rome during the period spanning the 5th century B.C. through the 1st century A.D. Representative texts will be chosen from the following genres: epic poetry, tragedy, comedy, dialogue, and various kinds of shorter poetry (pastoral, odes, etc.). Writers most likely to be on the syllabus include Homer, Sophocles, Aristophanes, Plato, Vergil and Ovid, among several others. Required spring break study abroad component. Travel fee required. May be repeated for credit one time. Offered alternate years.
