LIN 531 Phonology
This course will address principles of articulatory phonetics and phonological systems. By examining and appreciating the deep patterns of language sounds, students will develop a foundation for approaching effective pronunciation instruction in the language classroom. Principles and practices for pronunciation instruction will help educators navigate the complexities of teaching sound inventories, as well as the music of the language-stress, rhythm, and intonation. Further the course will explore issues of accent, identity, and speech communities in order to serve the individual needs of diverse learners in varied contexts.
